An Act of Kindness Every Day – Part III

It's a happy anniversary for this blog. My primary place in cyberspace. Eight years. Yes. Eight. And, this is blog post #301.

Of a truth, the past few months have been rather trying. A few stressors here and there have impacted the when and how I write. In an effort not to get into details once I start typing, I fully recognize that I've gone the way of not sharing much at all. The story has been playing out, but, for the past few months, I've been writing but not saying much; not saying what is on my heart to say. Out of wisdom, this is the route I've had to take. Of course, I've kept writing because I must.

I'm hoping I will soon get to that place where I feel free to articulate certain parts of the story. When that happens, it should be done in a way that others will find it relatable and will learn from the experience.

Until then, I've been thinking, perhaps respite is in order. I had the idea of recording an act of kindness every day for a year, starting August. Truth is, some days, I find it a bit challenging trying to recall a kind act I witnessed. This doesn't mean people are generally selfish - I'd like to think. (And the idea wasn't to record my own acts.) I think it has more to do with the fact that I'm primarily a homebody and a person of routine. Sure, I could witness many such acts, but after a while, they'd start sounding similar.

So, given the thought of respite and the risk of shallow writing if I continue on this trajectory, well, as Yogi Berra said, "When you get to a fork in the road, take it." 🙂

Before I take that pause, though...

My niece left her movie viewing in the backyard to go and ask permission from her friend's mom whether she could join her and the rest in watching the movie (Baby's Day Out). It was a go.

My niece learned to balance on roller blades and covered a bit of distance. Her friend from next door taught her how. Yeah. Same friend.

Was going up escalator with M&D. Daddy took his time but almost missed a step. A man stepped on after him. He called out after Daddy, "Don't worry, I'm right here to catch you!"

Ula took me on a tour of the Y. Of course, it could be said it was her job. But, she did it with kindness and a spirited sense of humour. I might join. For the swimming. I'm now kinda hooked on CrossFit.

Wanting to a particular cuisine for lunch, but at a loss for nearby restaurants, we stopped in at a grocers'. The cashier helped us out with directions and all.

On very short notice, someone came.by to provide a quote. But, that wasn't it. He brought me callaloo.

We went out to dinner. Toward the end, I witnessed my 7yo niece take her younger  4yo brother by the hand and lead him to the ice cream choices. Then, she got the scoop and shared him a small bowl. Very proud of her.

Writing this blog. Eight years. Three times a month. It's been terribly helpful. And, thank you for taking a moment to read when you do. This rest does not mean I can't or won't write a post if I am so compelled. It does mean I will likely not be posting as before - for now.

Talk soon.

Selah.
